Just imagine it:
You leisurely wake up in your private villa, walk outside on your patio, and enjoy a five-star breakfast of fresh tropical fruits, warm croissants, brewed coffee. After, you and your fiance head out on a morning adventure, perhaps to island-hop or scooter your way through the back streets to experience Thai culture.
Somewhere along the way, you find yourself on the beach sipping freshly picked coconut water. A relaxing massage ends your day, and you go to bed excited about doing it all over again the following day.
There’s just something about Thailand that exudes magic. The culture, the people, the incredible island views — even the daily routine is blissful! When you’re there, you feel relaxed and free. Everyone is friendly, and the hospitality is second to none.
Sometimes I wish I could get married all over again. So that I could elope in Thailand. I’d invite 20 or so guests, rent out a beachfront resort, and host the most epic elopement. One everyone would remember forever.
Now, imagine all of that PLUS an experienced destination photographer by your side capturing your adventure.
What better way to tie the knot?!
If this sounds like something you and your fiance would love, keep reading! Because I have all of the tips and tricks you need to start planning your own epic Thailand elopement wedding.
Hire a Destination Photographer
While your first inclination might be to hire a Thailand photographer to capture your wedding, the truth is, they’re hard to find. Or, rather, it’s hard to find one who’s experienced enough to provide the kind of photos you’re looking for.
If you do find an experienced Thai photographer, aces! But know that you’ll likely have some hurdles to jump through while planning.
For one, there’s the whole time zone difference. By the time they receive your email with a time-sensitive question, they’re already half a day behind in responding. And if you want to have a conversation with them in person, it means early morning or late-night phone calls.
Also, there may be a language barrier that leads to confusion and miscommunication. Definitely not something you want when planning one of the most important days of your life!
Make that Photographer Me!
As a destination wedding photographer, there’s always an exciting element to travelling. Travel opens up new ways of thinking and seeing things. And it’s inspiring in so many ways. Having a new perspective (and lots of inspiration) sparks a deeper creative side, allowing me to capture your day in a unique way.
My love of travelling to new places, learning about new cultures, and experiencing life is a big reason I also focus on weddings outside of Australia – and in tropical destinations like Thailand. And it’s how I’ve come to learn to always have a plan. To never leave anything to chance. And to always have a clear path of communication between the two of us during the journey.
We’ll dot all of our I’s and cross our T’s to ensure we’re on the same page. And that the details are taken care of before we arrive. And if there is a chance that we can meet in person before the wedding day – if we live close by or if I’m in your area – we’ll seize it!
When you book me for your destination wedding, I’m as excited about it as you are. I swear! And as a result, you’ll receive beautiful photos (and a broader range of images) that tell your personal story.
WEDDING PLANNERS
Having photographed weddings in Thailand, hiring a local Thailand wedding planner is a must! Not only will they help navigate all of the moving parts of your day. But they’ll help you navigate all of the island-specific hurtles that would otherwise cause a non-local stress. And if there was ever a time to be less stressed, it’s on your wedding day!
The Bridal Planner is an eco-friendly premier wedding planning company made up of an incredible team of people.
Chonlada, originally from Bangkok and founder of the company, is highly regarded in her field, speaks fluent English, and is an excellent communicator. And living in Phuket, she and her team of five easily navigate the local community well.
With her refined artistic taste, proven by her numerous published events, her style and designs for weddings are truly incredible.
If you’re looking for a wedding planner that specialises in one-of-a-kind Phuket weddings, Wedding Boutique is your go-to team.
Owned and operated by Ilaire, the only Italian-born planner and designer in Phuket, this company is full of energetic planners who are passionate about their work. Ilaire’s design style brings a unique perspective to weddings, fusing her European sophistication with Thailand’s island vibes. And she always puts 100% into making your wedding the best day ever.
Having planned weddings and events in Phuket since 2015, they know how to navigate Thailand’s tricky situations. They’ll take care of the logistics right alongside all the design aspects, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
Established in 2008, Luxury Events was the first professional wedding planning company in Phuket. And while they focus on high-end luxury style, they can pretty much master any wedding or event. And can easily accommodate more intimate weddings.
The team is very friendly, easy to communicate with, and exceptionally helpful.
FLORISTS
I Am Flower is the most incredible team of florists in Thailand. They are friendly, kind, and generous people to work with. And nothing is ever too difficult for them to achieve.
When I planned a styled shoot in [year], I had a specific design in mind. And although we couldn’t find something that matched my vision exactly, they provided alternatives that looked similar. And just as (if not more!) beautiful.
Whether you just want a stunning bouquet to hold during your elopement or need luscious table arrangements for your 50 person wedding, they can bring your vision to life. And with such a lavish abundance of flowers, they create jaw-dropping styles and designs.
HAIR & MAKEUP
Neil Donkin Makeup Phuket and Kate Hair and Makeup Phuket
Originally from Australia as well, Neil and I made an instant connection working together. Now living in Thailand, he knows the industry and community so well – it’s more like a bonus that he’s such a talented hair and makeup artist!
Both Neil and Kate are professional, kind, friendly, and always give a warm welcome.
VENUES
Anantara is a collection of five-star resorts located all over the world with 12 resorts offered throughout Thailand. However, their properties in Koh Samui and Phuket are some of their most coveted. (Not to mention their most beautiful when it comes to wedding backdrops and photos!)
The Phucket Mai Khao property is set on a lush hillside overlooking a powdery beach, and provides an ideal backdrop for epic wedding photos. Just take a look at the cliffside chapel overlooking the ocean!
The Aquila labels itself as one of Phuket’s largest private playgrounds. And located on a clifftop overlooking the water, it offers a high-end luxury feel, a modern vibe, and stunning views.
This 10,000 square meter estate is also home to seven stately bedrooms, a 30-meter infinity pool, and direct access to the beach, waterfalls, and coral reef.
The staff are more than helpful and accommodating. And they offer a clear path of communication throughout the planning process.
This incredible property includes villas, which I highly recommend to any couple looking for a high-end, luxurious touch for their wedding day.
Describing this place as an escape to paradise just doesn’t cut it. When visiting the property for the first time, I was blown away by the Coastal Escape.
At Coastal Escape, you’ll enjoy a luxurious villa with a private beachfront and accommodations for you and your guests. And stunning views of the world-famous Phang Nga Bay where you’ll say “I do” with your toes in the soft white sand.
With English-speaking staff who are warm, welcoming, and super-friendly, this five-star getaway is perfect for your elopement or wedding.
If you’re thinking of holding your special day in Thailand – in particular, the Koh Samui, Phuket, or Krabi island – I would be honoured to be a part of it. Let’s talk!
