Magnolia Rouge Featured Wedding: An Elegant and Classic Vineyard Wedding in New South Wales

Hunter Valley vineyard wedding by fine art film photographer shier mcmahon

Life can be funny. Especially when it comes to love. Take Phillipa and Ian’s story, for example.

They were both on the Bumble dating app but lived hours apart, so there was little chance they would ever come across each other.

But one day, as fate would have it, Philippa was at her parents’ house and Ian at his. *Ding!* Their radius’s were close enough together that the app notified them. And it was a match.

They met. They fell in love. They got engaged.

Then, they reached out to me to photograph their gorgeous wedding at the picturesque Borrodell Vineyard in Orange, New South Wales. (Which, I’m thrilled to say, was recently featured in Magnolia Rouge!) As they did with nearly every decision surrounding their wedding, they picked their venue with intention and significance – as it was a place Ian frequented as a child.

Phillipa and Ian loved my bright and airy style, which perfectly captured their outdoor ceremony overlooking the ancient Mt. Canobolas volcano.

Family was also really important for them. So they wanted to create a laid-back, intimate atmosphere where their closest family and friends could mingle and enjoy time together.

In Phillipa’s words:

“We just wanted something that was ‘us’ and not too much of what a wedding should be. We hoped that everyone found the day loving, fun, connected, relaxed and comfortable. Also, things went smoothly, and there weren’t too many things crammed into the evening (for example, we didn’t do a cake cutting or bouquet toss) as we wanted to spend time with each other and our loved ones above all else.”

Personal Touches

With help from a talented team of vendors, the couple created a wedding that was truly ‘them’ by adding personal touches and meaningful details.

Over the course of our time together, I was able to help Phillipa pick out her wedding flower colours and style by sending her a mood board for inspiration and talking through her options. After recommending Botanic Flora to them, Phillipa chose white and blush flowers in a classic, romantic style, which beautifully complemented her elegant, sophisticated, and simple gown. And incorporated her dad’s favourite flower, blue moon roses, and wheat stem from their family farm for an extra special touch.

Other personal details included the stationery made by Ian’s aunt. The floral centrepieces were picked from Phillipa’s parents’ garden. And the handmade wooden hearts that adorned the walls in the reception space.

Phillipa & Ian’s Experience

“Thank you for being so wonderful from the moment we booked you. Your communication, professionalism, kindness, and patience while we rode the COVID wedding planning year out was amazing. You went above and beyond helping out with the colour palette and other vendors when we had no idea what we were doing! Everyone at the wedding commented on how wonderful you were on the day, and getting the groom and groomsmen to relax enough for non-awkward pics was a major win! Thank you for everything.”

If you like Phillipa and Ian’s photos (and also want to talk colour palettes!), contact me. We’ll get a brainstorming session on the books.
