Featured Real Wedding: Janina & Adam, Salt at Shoal Bay

Beachside wedding Salt at Shoal Bay in Port Stephens by fine art film wedding photographer sheri McMahon

I’m not sure what it is about Australians, but they love a good dark and moody photo. So you can imagine how saturated the market is with this photography style. And while there’s nothing wrong with having a dark and moody preference, it adds an extra challenge for couples looking for something different.

Janina and Adam were one such couple. When they began their search for a wedding photographer, they knew they really wanted a bright and light style. And they preferred beautiful candid images over posed.

They were able to find a few other photographers whose style fit theirs, but ultimately, the bright and natural look of my photos stood out for them. The natural part, especially because Janina expressed that she hates posing.

And honestly, who wants to spend their wedding day in uncomfortable positions?

So when Janina and Adam came to me with their wants, needs, and concerns, I let them know that I would capture their day in an authentic, bright, and beautiful way. But I would also be more than a photographer for them. I would provide a helping hand, a comforting presence, and an enjoyable experience.

During the planning process, I helped with details, suggested vendors, and provided guidance when needed. When it came time to tie the knot, Janina and Adam felt great about their wedding day and photos.

Celebrating at Salt at Shoal Bay

The couple chose Salt as their ceremony and reception venue. And what a gorgeous venue it is!

Interesting fact: Salt is an Airbnb home consisting of three separate houses. It’s one of Port Stephens’ most popular locations for Sydney couples. You have to book the entire property, which is actually perfect because it becomes the ideal home to host your family in luxury. And there are so many lovely areas for capturing all of the wedding moments!

One of Janina and Adam’s favourite moments was taking time to be with each other and their son on the beach. I built a little intimate photo session into the timeline so the family could enjoy each other’s company and have those precious memories captured.

Another (BIG) thing that stands out for the couple is how comfortable the whole process was. “It wasn’t awkward at all!” Janina said. And I love that because it’s important to me that my couples always feel confident and comfortable on their wedding day. With or without a camera involved.

Their “First Look”

After capturing Janina and Adam’s day in the bright, airy, natural style they were looking for, I gave them some sneak peek photos. Their reaction?

“Our sneak peek photos were amazing, and when I looked at all of them, there wasn’t one I didn’t like. [Sheri] really captured our day so beautifully!” – SEE THE GALLERY HERE.

I couldn’t ask for a better reaction! And I’m so happy to have helped capture such sweet memories for these two.
